We then recorded the PĒRKONS through an Antelope Audio Orion 32+ interface at 24-bit / 48kHz, preserving every detail, transient, and nuance of this incredible hybrid drum machine.

A Brief History of the Perkons HD-01
The PĒRKONS HD-01 is the flagship drum machine from Latvian synth builder Erica Synths, named after Pērkons, the Baltic god of thunder — and it lives up to the name. Erica Synths first unveiled the instrument at Superbooth in Berlin in 2021, describing it as a machine that “will change your approach to electronic rhythm synthesis.”
Rather than relying on samples, the PĒRKONS is a four-voice hybrid: each voice pairs a digital sound engine with genuine analog filters, distortion, and an onboard effects section, all driven by a hands-on step sequencer built for live performance and improvisation. The result is a drum synthesizer capable of everything from tight, punchy kicks to screaming, overdriven noise and fully tonal percussion — sounds that feel alive and impossible to fully replicate in software.
A global component shortage delayed shipping until late 2022, and demand has kept it in high regard ever since. Originally offered in a distinctive blue chassis, it was later reissued in an all-black finish. Today it remains one of the most sought-after and inspiring hardware drum machines in modern electronic music — which is exactly why we spent more than two years programming, recording, and processing it for this collection.
